No! In fact some argue that Google penalizes you for adding optimized links to your press releases.
Hubspot wrote a great article about Google’s latest revision to its own Webmaster guidelines. In it, Hubspot discusses how adding optimized links to a press release can actually harm your SEO effort.
So, I could argue, in dental marketing, press releases are not a very good use of your funds generally speaking. I will save that argument for a different post.
In this post, I will assume you are paying money for someone to write press releases for you and distribute them over the internet.
I will also assume that you believe, and you are being told by the writer, that a press release is a great way to boost your SEO.
According to Google, this is simply not true.
When other sources link back to your web pages it improves your overall ranking from Googles perspective. Links back to you represent that you are a thought leader and that your content is worthy of being consumed.
Press release link backs are considered unnatural links by Google and will work against your page ranking strategy.
I encourage you to read the article in full. The key points I take out of the article are as follows:
- Press releases, because of their relatively short shelf life, don’t hold up over the long term as it relates to SEO.
- If you are going to pay for someone to write a press release, simply link back to your office or contact person. Make it easy for you to be found from the press release.
- User experience is critical. Make not only your press releases, but all of your web content, user friendly. Make it easy for folks to find you, consume your content, make appointments with your office, share you with their peers, family and friends and don’t use SEO trickery. SEO is useless if your audience doesn’t find what you rank for useful. Forget the tricks and gimmicks. Use your web presence to serve your audience and SEO will largely take care of itself.
